The Black Larks

Black Larks – a team of birdwatchers from Kazakhstan and members of the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan, ACBK (BirdLife Partner in Kazakhstan). We are united by common interests – birds and their photographing. We are very happy to join the ranks of the participants of this grandiose event #COTF2020 and make an effort to draw attention to the important problem of declining the number of the Steppe Eagle. Kazakhstan has one of the important habitats of this very charismatic bird and we ready to do our best for their conservation.

Help us with your donations to save the Steppe Eagle in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Make your contribution so that the Steppe Eagle soars freely and proudly in the sky under the sun, otherwise the national flag of Kazakhstan will remain the only place for this.

Meet the Team:

Ruslan Urazaliyev

Born and raised in the West Kazakhstan region. From early childhood, I have shown interest in nature and especially in its inhabitants. This sincere interest has become the basis for choosing a profession. From 2010 to this day I work in ACBK. I am a scientific researcher and Coordinator of the Sociable Lapwing Project, as well as I coordinate and participate in projects directly or indirectly related to birds. The main area of my interest is the steppe and semi-desert bird species and their conservation.

Vassiliy Fedorenko

I was interested in nature from childhood, but fate led me to the technical speciality. A new passion for the birds began with the buying of a photo camera, where birds started to get in the shot, and attempts to identify them led me to meet new people among ornithologists. For now, it is 10 years of my active birdwatching in Kazakhstan. The initial birdwatching moved into a more serious science and the study of bird biology of the Tien Shan Mountains. Now I work at the Institute of Zoology of the Republic of Kazakhstan. I participated in many expeditions both across Kazakhstan and other republics of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan), as well as in India and Sri Lanka. I took part in local birdwatching competitions in Kazakhstan. In addition to birds, I am engaged in the study of fungi and manage my own web-site about Fungi of Kazakhstan.

Andrey Kovalenko

I began to get involved in studying birds from the age of 10. In addition to Kazakhstan, which I travelled far and wide, I have surveyed birds in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Germany, India. One of my favourite groups of birds is raptors. I have done field research on the Steppe Eagle, for which this event is dedicated. I hope we will make our new contribution to this.

Gennadiy Dyakin

I have been interested in wildlife since childhood. Since 2006, I became interested in birdwatching. It is important for me not only to see the bird but also to photograph. I mainly do photography in Kazakhstan, but in last years, I have managed to watch birds in a number of foreign countries. To date, there are more than a thousand species of birds in my photo collection.
