Team Spectacleds

Liza-chepurko

Team Spectacled are returning to the race with new targets – racing by foot only and protect the Steppe Eagles. We all live in different areas of the country and don’t get to see each other very often, but birds connect between us. After 3 years of competing seriously together, last year we finally won the race, and it was amazing! This year we decided to take a break from the pressure of the regular race and participate the calmer green race by foot. It will be a great challenge for us and will demand both mental and physical preparations, but we hope to enjoy it and to inspire others to do the race this way which is a much more ecological way. Two of us could not join this year but we are still determined to get a good score and mostly to manage to raise awareness and to protect the Steppe Eagles in their breeding areas in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Steppe eagles are amazing birds and see them migrating through Eilat mountains every spring is an unforgettable experience – but unfortunately, now they need our help. We call you to donate to our team and help us protect the steppe eagles!

Meet the Team:

Ori Davidor

My name is Ori and I’m 16 years old. 5 years ago I discovered the birding world and since than I go birding whenever I can. I’m going to participate with TEAM SPECTACLED for the fourth time and this year our main goal is to raise as much money and awareness as we can for the Steppe Eagles. After winning last year’s race, this year we decided to participate in the ‘green race’ and I’m very excited about that. It is going to be a new challenge for me and my team and I’m sure it will be great!

Klil Zaitlin

My name is Klil Zaitlin and I am a 16 years old birder from Jerusalem. I started birding at the age of 5 and I have been birding ever since. This year I took upon myself a challenge to complete an ebird checklist every day and so fur I completed 115 checklists in 2019. I participated in all the races so far and last year I finally fulfilled a dream – winning the COTF with Team Spectacled. After that, we came with a new idea – racing on foot only, and hopefully inspiring other teams to do the same. I am very excited to try a new concept of the race after 6 years, and I hope it will help us raise more awareness to the race.

Oded Ovadia

My name is Oded Ovadia, I live in Lehavim. I am married to Tal and father to Yael Roi and Alon. From a very young age, I remember myself with my father and binoculars, wandering around the fish ponds in Emek-Hefer where I grew up, looking at birds. I am a zoologist and for 13 years served as the head of the birdstrike prevention department in the Israeli Air Force. This is my fourth year with Team spectacleD and after 3 years on the roads, driving hundreds of miles we decided we must reduce our contribution to the global warming and participate in the green course. It’s going to be fun but also tuff with my wounded knee. Hope to be there on time in Eilat in the end of the race. Let’s go, Team Spectacled!
